JOYCE SLAUGHTER

Peace After the Storm

I live in the Morrisania neighborhood of the Bronx, NY with my daughter Tara, son-in-law Matthew, their dog Bear and Cat Dallas. I enjoy taking photos of the sky after rain storms from my yard. These are peaceful moments during this time of the virus’ storm.

We have to stay home or wear masks if you have to go out. Stay 6 feet away from others. Wash hands many times. We are on lock down. So many people my age have died because of this virus. This is a storm of life and I know this will pass like all the rain storms do.

Getting through this storm, I must stay in peace. Watching the sky and taking photos of it, keeps me in peace like:

John 14:27 Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

God light comes through the passing storm.

Watching daily updates by Mayor De Blasio. How many are Sick? How many Died?

Dallas waiting for family to come home from working.

Texting and calling keep us together while we are apart.

The daylight coming into my bedroom.

This Mother's Day Sunday remembering past gifts and better times.

My Children on Easter Sunday 1977 at my sister's home in the Bronx.

Welcome Sunshine, Welcome New Day.

My son-in-law Matthew with his dog Bear relaxing after coming home from work.

My daughter Tara getting bags ready for next day garbage pickup after coming home from working at the hospital.

Me and my shadow returning home from a walk to the store.

This too shall pass just like the storm.

My moment of peace after a rain storm. It smelled like rose water.
